The Friendly Visiting/Tel-A-Care program provides visits to homebound clients on a regular basis convenient for both client and volunteer. Program clients are senior citizens of Lackawanna County, age 60 and older who live alone and are in need of socialization. This program is designed to reduce the isolation of older adults lacking inter-personal support. By reducing this isolation, Friendly Visiting/Tel-A-Care improves the sense of well-being of the consumers served.

Friendly Visitors provide friendly conversation and help with daily tasks such as preparing meals, light reading, writing letters and going for walks. Volunteers are asked to visit a client for one hour each week.

Tel-A-Care volunteers make regularly scheduled telephone calls from their own homes to homebound elderly clients providing a safety check while maintaining friendly contact with the client. Tel-A-Care volunteers may call a client daily or up to four times each week depending on the client's needs.

For more information, call Karen Evankavitch or Lucille Johnston at (570) 961-1950, or e-mail your request for information.

The Friendly Visiting/Tel-A-Care program is funded in part under a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners through the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging.
